Noreen Gregor, CA

Getting There

The road to the CA designation is different for many people. Personally, I took the traditional route, obtaining a bachelor of commerce degree (1994), then articling with a CA firm (Ernst & Young in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) for three years after that. As with most CAs, the decision to become a CA occurred naturally. Having a knack for numbers and excelling in my introductory financial accounting class provided the initial impetus to pursue the designation, and I have never looked back.

I spent five years as a Senior Financial Officer in a large equipment manufacturer in the agricultural industry before joining Suncorp Valuations Ltd. in Saskatoon. Currently, I’m the company’s Vice-President of Finance and Administration.

Suncorp is a full-service appraisal and valuation firm. In my current role, I’m responsible for the company’s financial, accounting, administration, and human resource areas. As a member of the management team, I participate in the development and implementation of corporate goals and objectives, and in the short and long-term strategic planning necessary to meet these objectives. No day is ever the same, and my work is both challenging and rewarding.

Giving Back

There are a number of volunteer committee and board positions that enable CAs to give back to our profession. I’ve found my involvement in education matters at the provincial level very rewarding. I have been involved with the CA School of Business (CASB) as a facilitator almost since its inception in 2000. The facilitator's role is to guide students through online materials, and oversee an interactive workshop where the students work and perform tasks in a simulated office environment. For me, this has been a wonderful opportunity to stay abreast of the changes in the educational delivery model, and to further enhance my business skills. Having the opportunity to work with, and get to know, the latest business leaders has been a gratifying experience.

Endless Possibilities

I'm continuously looking for ways to expand my knowledge and further improve my skills. The possibilities are endless. The knowledge gained from studying to become a Chartered Accountant, and from working as one, allows you to work with any company in the world. You have the necessary knowledge to work in any financial capacity that you choose. What could be more exciting then having so many doors open to you?

Whatever your passion, as a CA, you’ll have the skills to pursue your dreams!
